Hi Sherry,
I made your lotion recipe a couple of weeks ago and it turned out fantastic, it
sank into my skin beautifully!! I liked it so much I made another batch last
night using the same ingredients as the first batch the texture is good and
looks the same as the first batch but this batch kinda sits on the skin. I have
to rub the lotion to get it to sink into my skin, whereas the first batch just
sank in on skin contact. What do you think I did wrong with the second batch??
The first batch I made emulsified very quickly when I added the water phase.
The batch I made last night took much longer to emulsify but once it did it
became very thick very fast. Both batch’s I made I added the 1% of stearic
acid.
I just can’t figure out what I might have done wrong with the second batch.
Thanks for any and all help!
Rita

HI Rita
If you used exactly the same ingredients, then I can only assume that
you may have left something out or measured something incorrectly…
Boy ….I know that happens to me sometimes, when I get distracted,
or think I know the formula by heart, LOL, then I leave something out
or do not use exact measurements and it turns out all wrong!
So I use a checklist and print out the formula and check it off as
I measure and add it, so in case I get distracted I don’t leave out
something and can read the exact measurements from the print out.
Also watch the temperatures, the lotion needs to be very warm to hot
when mixing oil and water bases, cooling down to 120 before adding a
preservative.
Stearic acid is melted along with the oils/butters/emulisifers to 170
degrees and holding, as is the water base to 170 degrees and holding,
before combining the bases together.
