Shelf life and scrubs with oatmeal

May 27th, 2006 · 2 Comments

I’m new here and would like to make sugar scrubs to give this
holiday season. I like the recipes that add ground oatmeal or
almonds, but I wonder about their shelf life and if they need to be
refrigerated. Any experience? Also, I have seen where people add
lavendar and other herbs. What is their shelf life? Will they
mold?
I have lavendar EO and rosemary, as well as both in herb form. Will
those scents go together? Any ideas what I can add to either one or
both? TIA!!!!

Sorry but jojoba and vitamin e are not preservatives. Vitamin e is an
antioxidant and perhaps jojoba too (I had not heard that before) but
neither will stop the beasties from growing. Unless the scrubs have
water your probably don’t need a preservative unless you are using fresh
    herbs.
Despite many claims to the contrary there really are no known “natural”
    preservatives.

    Hello
I don’t think there are natural preservtives. There may be natural things
that help prolong the life of some things but vit e and jojoba oil don’t kill
bacteria to my knowledge, If something is properly preserved then there is no
need to keep it in the fridge.
    just my 2 cents
    winter
