Sorry for the cross post but I’m pretty much in the desperation stage
these days. I’m normally a lurker, learning as much as I can before I
start actually making lye based soap. I have done some M&P, do mostly
bath salts and the like.
My father has End Stage Renal Disease and is currently experiencing
severe Edema (swelling) as his transplant fails. I have read on
various md web sites that dandilion is good for edema. Would this
benefit him in some form of toiletry that he could use as a soak or do
the properties only work when ingested. I know there are several very
knowlegable people out there and I was wondering if anyone had any
suggestions for something that I could make him to ease the swelling.
He can barely walk at this point so any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks!
Ang
Yep, I admit it, dyed in the wool sappy romantic at heart! Gimme a

I’m so sorry to read this. As our parents age, we are presented with
issues of health care and illness that I know I feel ill prepared to
    deal with.
I would check with his doctor before you do anything either
internally or externally regarding the swelling. I do think
dandelions work probably internally, but let’s say they DO work from
a topical product. That would mean more fluids leaving the tissues
and having to be delt with by his body - the very organs that are
failing. Maybe the doctors don’t WANT the swelling to go away to
rapidly or the extra burden on his kidneys or heart will be too
much. Definately in a case like this - don’t do anything without
consulting his medical doctor. My Dad recently suffered a massive
heart attack, and dealing with fluid retention was a major focal
point in his after care. Best wishes, Susan

    Hi Ang;
Dandelion Tea will help.My Father-in-law had kidney failure and the
Homeopath that hubby found for him prescribed dandelion tea and they mixed
it in with orange juice to mask the taste, and today his kidneys are fine,
but he still drinks the tea about twice a week. You can get the dandelion
root at most health food stores and you can also get the tea already bagged
    up.
    Hopes this helps.
