This past weekend, I was in Texarkana, TX and AR for a meeting, to start a new
co-op for marketing purposes. The co-op was for all three birds, EMU, ostrich
and rhea. It went very well, I might add. Anyway, there were folks from Canada,
England and of all places Australia. The guy from Australia owns EMU Spirit and
was here to talk to us about our EMU oil production and looking to buy oil from
us. He says the good old Mr. Blue bought up most all the oil in Australia and
that another American company is contracting for oil right now. He says who ever
it is, must also know there is a shortage coming very soon. He also said the
price has gone way up there as well.
Also, most all the oil refiners in the states are working at capacity now and
demand is only growing. We discussed how to get more birds on the ground and
have a more consistent product. We do feel we found a way, and that is with a
feed program. I was chosen to be the national feed director, and come up with a
program that will work for all the growers. This will not be easy, but if we can
do it, will increase the quality and quantity of the EMU oil.
I am telling you this, so that you can be prepared for an increase not only here
but from over seas as well. Supply and demand will set the market price. We had
the major processors there at the meeting and most were selling oil for $250.00
or more and one was at $290.00 a gallon.
Also, in Australia, they have the equivalent of FDA approval for over the
counter drug of the EMU oil and are trying to get that here. If that happens,
look out, the price of EMU oil will hit the roof, something we, the growers have
longed for a very long time. The price increase will make the ostrich oil look
very good in the very near future.

I just happen to have a possible theory on the possible emu “crisis” you mention
in your post below. I live in Marlow, OK. EPMI (Emu Products & Management,
Inc.), which is based here, just this summer moved their emu slaughtering and
other productions from overseas to here. EPMI is one of the largest Emu
producers/product company. Though everyone knows McClung leads these days with
Blue Stuff. (Based in OKC).
the link to the company is www.epmi.net (they offer a mail out newsletter which
is really nice) You can catch a link from their site to the aea-emu.org site as
well as suppliers throughout each state listed. I did notice on the site that a
gallon of emu oil is $373.95. whew! no, wait, let me say that again - WHEWWWWWW!
I think I’ll stick with Avocado oil! LOL.
and there is www.chisholmtrailemu.com for anyone interested. I am not affiliated
with either of these companies and to be honest have not purchased from them
yet.
Even with all these emu companies in Oklahoma, Emu products are still sky high.
We also had a new store open here Blue something or another. I do attest to Blue
Stuff! love it!
